About
Jenny Sweeting is the founder of GCSE Edge. A teacher for over a decade, she recognised that many able students were quietly falling through the gaps - held back not by ability, but by overwhelm and a lack of tailored support. GCSE Edge was created to bridge that gap - giving teens the executive function skills and responsive coaching that schools often can't provide.

Who GCSE Edge is for
GCSE Edge is designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students who are capable but struggling - not because they don't understand the material, but because the how of learning isn't working for them.
I work with teens who are often one or more of the following:
-
Results don't reflect their ability because they lack the systems and skills to perform under pressure
-
Planning, starting tasks, staying organised, managing time, or following through might all contribute to overwhelm.
-
Students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, or other profiles who need strategies matched to how their brain works
-
Perfectionism, overwhelm, or shutdown when facing revision or exams.
Coaching Options
90-minute 1:1 session where we identify what's breaking down and build a clear plan forward.
This includes (where necessary):
✓ Review of existing reports
✓ Executive function profiling
✓ Collaboration plan with 3-4 priority areas
✓ Hands-on coaching on one immediate challenge (e.g., task initiation, revision planning, exam anxiety)
Your teen leaves with a roadmap – not another generic report, but practical clarity on what will actually help your teen succeed.
It’s a low-commitment way to experience my approach and work out whether it is the right fit for your teen.

-
No. Tutoring focuses on subject content – reteaching what they've learned in class. GCSE Edge focuses on how your teen learns: building executive function, effective revision strategies, and emotional regulation under pressure. It complements tutoring (or replaces the need for it if the issue isn't subject knowledge).
-
No. Many of the students I work with have ADHD, dyslexia, or autism diagnoses, but you don't need a label to benefit from this support. If your teen struggles with organisation, focus, or exam stress, this coaching can help.
-
The assessment session helps us figure that out together. I'll be honest if I don't think I'm the right fit – but typically, if your teen is motivated to improve (even if they don't know how), we can make real progress.
Coaching works best when a young person is ready to engage — genuine buy-in matters. GCSE Edge is designed to feel supportive, collaborative, and low-pressure, not like “more school”.
Some initial hesitancy is normal, especially if your teen has had negative experiences with tutoring or felt misunderstood in the past. The Focus Session is deliberately low-pressure and collaborative - teens often find it feels different from what they've experienced before.
In practice, one focused hour of coaching each week can often save many more hours otherwise lost to procrastination, overwhelm, or ineffective study habits.
-
It depends on what we're working on. Some families book 4-6 sessions to target specific challenges (e.g., revision planning, task initiation). Others work with me across the year for ongoing support through mocks and final exams. We'll discuss this in the assessment.
-
Sessions are flexible and can be held online or in person (Cheltenham, Cotswolds).

GCSE Edge is coaching, not therapy or clinical intervention. It may not be right if:
Your teen is in acute mental health crisis (therapeutic support should come first - I'm happy to work alongside therapy once stabilised)
Your teen is completely unwilling to engage (some hesitancy is normal, but coaching requires showing up)
The main issue is subject knowledge gaps rather than executive function or study skills
The Focus Session is designed to help us figure out together whether GCSE Edge is the right fit for your family. If I don't think I can help, I'll be honest with you.
A calmer GCSE journey starts with a conversation.
